Update on Electronic Titles in Oklahoma

Oklahoma recently launched its transition to electronic vehicle titles. After feedback from customers and tag agents, adjustments have been made to clarify how titles are issued:

  • If your vehicle has no lien, you may still request a paper title. Be sure to let your licensed tag agent know, either in person or when using OkCARS.
  • If your vehicle has a lien, the title will be issued electronically and sent to your lienholder. However, in some cases, a paper title may still be requested — including if the vehicle is:
    • Being moved, sold, or transferred out of state
    • Titled to a licensed Oklahoma dealer
    • Sold at auction
    • Under a floorplan lending agreement
    • Involved in a lease (paper title can now be requested at any time)

Beware of Scam Texts

We’re aware of scam texts claiming to be from the “Department of Motor Vehicles” about unpaid traffic violations. These messages are part of a nationwide text scam called smishing and are not legitimate.

They often threaten license suspension or legal action and urge you to click a link to pay. These texts are fraudulent. The senders are not affiliated with Service Oklahoma or any state agency and target people randomly across Oklahoma and the U.S.

Remember:
  • Service Oklahoma will never call or text you for payment or financial info.
  • Licensed tag agents do not request payments by phone or text.
  • Delete any suspicious messages and report them as spam.

Cherokee tribal members who reside on tribal lands may continue to register directly with the Cherokee Nation. However, those living outside tribal lands must register with the state to receive an Oklahoma title and a Cherokee Nation plate. All Cherokee tribal members residing outside tribal lands are required to register with the state by 2029.

Customers will need to bring their Cherokee Nation Title, insurance, and Cherokee Nation Membership ID Card (this excludes bloodline cards) to our office to obtain a tribal plate.

New Iconic Oklahoma Plate is Here!

As of Sept. 1, 2024, Oklahoma’s standard issue license plate will have a new design. Unlike previous plate redesigns, Oklahomans will not automatically be reissued the newly designed plate.

Anyone who would like the new Iconic Oklahoma Plate can visit Indian Springs Tag agency to obtain one. Customers will pay a $4 plate replacement fee if they are within their annual vehicle registration renewal period, or a $9 fee outside of their annual renewal period.
