How do I buy/sell/transfer a vehicle without a paper title?

Can I still get a paper title for my vehicle?

It depends on whether your vehicle has a lien:

• If your vehicle does not have a lien: You can request a paper title. Just let your licensed tag agent know when processing your transaction (in person or via OkCARS).

• If your vehicle has a lien: The title will be electronic by default and sent to the lienholder. For vehicles with liens, paper titles are only available in these specific situations:

  • You are moving, selling, or transferring the vehicle out of state

  • The vehicle is titled in the name of a licensed Oklahoma dealer

  • The vehicle is being sold at auction

  • The vehicle is part of a floorplan lending agreement

  • The vehicle is under a lease agreement (paper title now available anytime)

Do I need an appointment?

No, appointments are not required for any of our services, including Driver License services.* However, for your convenience, we offer the option to schedule an appointment for Driver License services. Making an appointment can significantly reduce wait times. You can book your appointment here.

* Note: We do not complete out-of-state transfers for Driver Licenses on Saturdays. We do however take walk-ins and appointments for out-of-state Driver License transfers on all weekdays.
